Smart completes successful management buyout: gears up for further success

One of the UK’s leading Garden Room manufacturers of quality garden buildings has confirmed that it has been purchased by its new leadership team after a successful management buyout (MBO).

Smart, the Thurston-based company, has built up an enviable record for innovation and quality garden rooms over its 19 years of operation through combining modern state-of-the-art building techniques and materials, alongside traditional craftsmanship skills.

Earlier this year, the company recruited leading Suffolk businessman Matt Moss to drive forward the next stages of its expansion plans.

About Matt Moss, new Managing Director

Matt has quickly instigated a total quality approach to running the business, including investing in training, the retention of existing key staff and the successful recruitment of new talent to the company.

Now Matt, alongside operations director Paul Sheppard and Sue Phillips, Smart’s sales and marketing director, have become owners of the company.

Paul Sheppard

Paul has nearly two decades’ of manufacturing and management experience, having previously been operations director at Poundfield Products Ltd.

Sue Phillips

Sue has worked for Smart since January 2015, having previously worked in a range of senior sales and marketing roles in the eastern region.

Matt explained that,

“During this MBO, I’m proud to say that thanks to the team’s dedication and professionalism, we’ve continued to be totally focused on producing our range of high quality garden lifestyle solutions to customers without a hitch”

“Ultimately, the new ownership guarantees an injection of new energy, a renewed sense of purpose and an even greater focus on our core values of quality, product development and all round innovation.”

Matt added:

“This is great news for our 36-strong workforce, our suppliers and our current and potential customers. The future is looking good for Smart and everyone associated with our vision to help improve people’s living spaces for the better and maintain their work/life balance.”

During the MBO, SMART used the services of Hertfordshire-based Primary Asset Finance, a business funding solutions company and solicitors Greene & Greene, based in Bury St. Edmunds.

As a result of the MBO, Smart is now confidently looking forward to a range of new product developments and streamlined product techniques across its range of garden buildings.
