How the Architectural Wonder of Orangeries Inspired Our New Temple Folly Range

Temple Folly Range

A Brief History of Orangeries

The first orangeries date back to Italy in the early 17th century. Wealthy British landowners at that time wanted to house orange and other citrus trees during the long winters to protect them from the harsher weather and the development of new glass-making technology meant glass could be manufactured in large sheets.

By the 19th century, glazed roofs were established to allow as much sunlight into the building as possible. Orangeries were a symbol of status and wealth, and having a glazed roof ultimately made a family appear even more aristocratic.

How Orangeries Inspired the New Temple Folly Range

Orangeries have stood the test of time as enduring icons of both style and wealth. Our Temple Folly range was created as a contemporary twist on this classic architectural wonder with the perfect balance of light, architecture and style.

Like an orangery, The Temple Folly range has the unique addition of extra glazing. This comes in the form of an abundance of floor to ceiling glass panels and a front gable glass feature above the entrance at the front of the building which offers traditional warmth combined with special design features to let in more sunlight than any of our other ranges.
