2021 Garden Room Trend Report

A Rise in Garden Room Popularity

Trends are built on what is currently going on around the world; politically, economically, socially and environmentally. This is no different to the manufacture of Garden Rooms and the popularity of them.

A new study from Electrical Direct has revealed how Britain’s houses are getting smaller but more expensive. Forbes states that homes have had an annual growth of 11% this year alone.

Home space being reduced and the need to reassert boundaries at home suggests the increase of sales reported by The Guardian of garden buildings going up by 500% between January and May 2021.

Boundaries within the home are important both physically and emotionally. Soft separation of spaces breaks up how each space is used and how it makes us feel, especially for those of us working from home; separation is key to detaching working life from our home life.

Mini home away from home

Often, living in a small home, or a busy environment can add pressure to everyday life. Garden Rooms are a perfect way to separate and create unique spaces, whatever your needs.

Within one uniquely built space, at a fraction of the cost and hassle of an extension, all possibilities become real.

SMART garden rooms give you the opportunity to create a distinctively one-off room that can add huge value to you and your family. An extra zone to use however you wish, just a short distance from your home, can have a huge impact on building happy and healthy minds.

Without the strong commitment of switching it up in the home, you can create a functional room in your garden which offers flexibility for the whole family, with the ability for its usage to be changed quickly and easily.

We at SMART love helping our customers to create their dream rooms, no matter what the need is.

Flexible work/life balance

By 2025, it is estimated that 70% of the workforce will be working remotely at least five days a month. While 2020 may be considered to be the year of remote working, it is just the beginning as we see the trend continuing in 2021.

Garden Offices offer a new option to work in, with soft separation from the home, and helps set emotional boundaries. Homeworking from the kitchen table or spare bedroom can make It harder to switch off and relax after the workday is done. Therefore, we like to offer solutions to support those working remotely.

Emotional and physical wellbeing is important to keep in mind when trying to balance a healthy work/home life. Furthermore, a separated space dedicated to work allows for the brain to differentiate the pressure of work responsibilities against the requirements of busy family life.

As well as creating home working boundaries, fuel prices have increased to the highest cost in almost 8 years, says The Guardian. Remote working can therefore help reduce costs immensely and as well as helping reduce our carbon footprint with fewer vehicles on the roads.

SMART values the environmental impression our factory and warehouse has and the impact we create. Therefore, we have practices in place to help reduce our impact such as compacting waste wood, which can be used as firewood.

If you are in need of professional working space, a garden office is perfect for saving costs on renting space. Garden rooms are also much more customisable giving you the ability to create a personal atmosphere to go with your brand or business, for a percentage of the price.

Extra Living Space

Living Space

Garden Pods are a great way to add space and value to your home. The value-added by a garden room, office or studio is about 1.5x the cost of the building installation. Robert Ellis from Nutbrook Property said that ‘Whilst a lot of the value is attributable to the extra space it creates, a garden room is modern and stylish and adds to the whole appeal of the property.’

SMART can build solutions that are both simple and complex for families and individuals who need extra living space. SMART buildings are a cost-effective answer instead of moving homes and moving your life away from somewhere you’ve grown to love.
