Our dedicated site surveyors travel the entire UK visiting gardens and designing garden rooms and studios, meaning each and every building is unique and customised, creating a focus on use, requirements and surroundings, the survey is designed to ensure that we understand exactly what it is you’re looking for.

Charlie Dalton

Charlie launched the very first mainstream garden office company in 2001 when he was unable to source an appropriate garden office to work from home. Smart became an independent, family owned business in 2006 when Charlie and his core team launched a brand new range with in-house manufacturing.

Charlie is still directly involved in EVERY building the company produces and personally signs off each one. In recognition of his work in this field, Charlie was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts in 2004. He is also a fully qualified carpenter to City & Guilds standard.


Debi Knott

Operations Director

Debi manages our operations and logistics functions to make sure that all aspects of Smart run smoothly and that every order is delivered on time. Debi ensures that we provide the best possible working environment for our forty strong team.

Sue joined Smart as Customer Services Manager in January 2015. With many years’ experience in sales, business development and customer service roles, Sue has very quickly got to grips with being a Garden Office geek and is always on hand to answer your questions and guide you through the Smart process, with the sole aim of providing you with your perfect garden room and exceptional customer service.

Tony is responsible for ensuring that every garden office we produce is individually manufactured to the highest standards and delivered and installed to our customer’s requirements. Tony has worked with our MD Charlie crafting beautiful garden rooms for over 13 years and can usually be found with a pencil behind his ear!

Gemma Garner joined Smart as Office Manager in 2015, having recently returned from three years living and working in Australia and New Zealand. Gemma assists our customers and ensures the smooth transition of your order with the ground works and office installation teams, building on her previous work experience in business support and development, customer service and accounts.

Marketing Manager

Responsible for all of the marketing at Smart, Michelle Wootton has an established background in marketing and communications in the telecommunications and commercial work space sectors. Michelle manages our campaigns, content and social media channels, sharing our news and client stories with you all to help you find your dream garden office.
