Quality Garden Offices | CCLG Charity Fund ‘Live Kindly, Live Loudly’

Name – Emma Jones & Dylan Fuller

Brief – To create a space for remembering daughter Ruby & build a hub for managing her Live Kindly, Live Loudly Fund.

SMART Building – KEY STUDIO – 3.7m x 2.1m

Emma Jones & Dylan Fuller created a charity fund ‘Live Kindly Live Loudly’ with Children’s Cancer & Leukaemia Group in memory of their Special daughter Ruby, who sadly passed away from a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

This life-altering event has given Ruby’s family a mission to help others and raise awareness and money to help support other young people going through similar experiences, treatments and life changing events.

SMART were happy to build this family a safe space to remember Ruby and look back on their amazing charitable work which is away from the main home where they can focus & reflect.

Tell us about your charity fund

Ruby’s Live Kindly Live Loudly Fund is a special fund set up with Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group in memory of our daughter Ruby, who died from cancer aged 18.  Ruby had been a happy and healthy 17-year-old, halfway through her A levels, when she was diagnosed with a rare kind of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2019.  She endured 10 months of gruelling treatment, but the cancer was too aggressive, and she died in May 2020.  Her consultant told us that they haven’t yet figured out a reliable treatment for the type of cancer she had and so we’re raising funds for new research to find better treatments.

We’ve raised over £100,000 so far and have a goal of reaching £500,000 eventually – roughly what the NHS spent trying to save her life.

We fundraise through friends and family doing sponsored events – we’ve had everything from wing walking and skydiving to paddle boarding, open water swimming and even the ‘Tube Challenge’ where you try to get through all 270 London Underground stations in a day. (Ruby would have loved that one – she was a huge fan of the Tube!)

We also have a range of merchandise that we sell featuring Ruby’s motto – Live Kindly Live Loudly.  Ruby believed that being kind is the most important thing in the world – and the ‘loudly’ bit is about being brave and standing up for what you believe. Friends and family have created artwork and jewellery featuring her motto and so we sell greeting cards, mugs, tea towels, badges and stickers via our website – www.livekindlyliveloudly.co.uk – with all profits going to her fund with CCLG.

What made you decide to set up from a garden office?

We wanted a separate space for the charity, where we could store all our merchandise and materials – close to the house but a little separate from it. And a nice, peaceful place where we all can sit and remember Ruby. As well as the desk and computer, we have a comfy chair, photos of Ruby and various mementoes. It’s a special place.

How did you find SMART Garden Offices?

We did an online search and really liked the look of the SMART range. The prices seemed competitive, and it had lots of great reviews.

What difference has the SMART office made to you?

It’s been fantastic – it’s like having an extra, very lovely room in our house that is warm and light.   It means our house feels less crowded and we all have someone to retreat to when we want to.  We all make use of it; as well as running the charity, all three of us (Ruby’s parents and her younger sister) will spend time there when we want a quiet moment to remember Ruby.  And our three cats love it too!

What do your friends/colleagues think of your studio?

Everyone loves it!  It was a dark dank corner of the garden before which we didn’t really use.  I can’t tell you how many people have asked about it; how much did it cost, how long did it take to install – and they are always amazed at how reasonable it was and how quickly it went in.  In September, we had a party to thank our fundraisers; we had a professional singer who sang some of Ruby’s favourite songs; she used the garden office as her ‘stage’ (see photo) which worked well.   It’s completely transformed our garden.

How would you rate your experience with SMART Garden Offices?

SMART have been absolutely brilliant the whole way through, from the initial quote, site survey, installation of the ground screws, electrical install and the actual office install.  The communication was fantastic, and they were completely reliable in terms of everyone showing up when they said they would.  The installation process was so quick and easy.  I have nothing but praise for the company.
